<살아있는 도시, 삶의 예술>전은 담양 지역리서치 전시로, 현대미술에서 주요한 창작 방법론인 예술적 리서치가 갖는 함의와 가능성을 실험해보고자 기획되었다. 이번 전시는 로컬리티에 집중한 예술적 리서치와 해석으로 담양을 다양한 시각으로 선보이고자 하였으며, 예술가에 의한 일상 및 도시에 대한 개입과 사회적 역할의 의미로 일반적 주제전과는 또 다른 함의를 가지고 있다.

6명의 참여작가는 각기 다른 시선과 방법으로 관심주제를 탐구하며 담양을 새롭게 바라보기를 시도했다. 예술적 리서치를 통한 작업은 예술가들에 의해 어떻게 발현되는지 또, 예술가들에게 어떠한 작업적 영향을 미칠지에 대한 탐구이며, 삶의 예술적 근거에 대하여 실천적으로 적용하고자 한 시도이다. 작가마다 다르게 구사되는 그 방식과 결과를 어떤 관점으로 읽어낼지, 일반 리서치와 달리 저마다의 해석으로 이뤄낸 다양한 시각적 결과물들을 들여다보며 관점의 다양화에 대한 중요성을 다시 강조하고자 한다.

<Living City, Art of Life> is an exhibition of Damyang Regional Research, designed to test the meaning and possibility of important artistic research in contemporary art. This exhibition aims to show Damyang from various perspectives through artistic research and interpretation focused on locality. Artists intervene in everyday life and cities as social roles, and have a different meaning from general thematic exhibitions.

Six participating artists tried to look at Damyang newly by exploring topics of interest with different eyes and methods. Work through artistic research is an exploration of how artists are represented and how they affect them, and an attempt to apply them practically to the artistic basis of life. From what perspective can we read the ways and the results that are expressed differently for each artist? In addition, unlike general research, it would like to re-emphasize the importance of diversifying perspectives by looking at various visual outcomes of different interpretations.

•아빠 찾아 삼만리 (Find dad in Samman-ri)

마을에서 나고 자라며 터를 일궈오신 아버지, 올해 초 이웃집으로 온 스리랑카 이주노동자들 그리고 다시, 중동으로 해외근로를 다녀오셨던 아버지의 36년 전 경험. 다른 듯 닮아 있는 이들의 삶의 부분을 추적해 본다. 아버지의 과거는 동시에 현재의 삼만리를 이야기하고 있었다. 나에게 있어서 늘 익숙한 ‘고향’으로써 여겨졌던 마을의 풍경과 사람들의 존재가 새로이 다가온다. 세대, 국가를 초월하며 연결되고 지속되고 있는 ‘노동하는 삶’들, 마을 안에 자리하고 있었던 또 다른 세계들을 발견하며 삼만리의 현재를 돌아본다.
